Marie MonCerise-Dupain (formerly known as Marie Toussaint before the death of her father) is a recurring antagonist-turned-an anti-heroine and later, one of the
tritagonists in Dance! Dance!: Ballet Heroes of Paris. She is a student in Mr. Archambault's ballet class at École de Danse Eléa Barré and the rival of Dung Nguyen. She is also the twin sister of Beau MonCerise-Dupain and the daughter of widowed Antoinette MonCerise-Dupain and (currently deceased) Antoine Toussaint. Her mother owns a department store, which used to be a church owned by her father up until his death, and the church building became refurbished.
In the season 2 episode "Widow", she is blessed with the Archaea Dance Ribbon, which can transform her into Arachnida, a spider-themed superhero. In season 3, Marie is no longer called upon to be Arachnida due to the high risk of her identity being exposed places upon both Marie and her family.
She is voiced by Elsie Lovelock, who provided the singing voice for Charlie Morningstar in Hazbin Hotel and voiced Mommy Long Legs in the indie-survival-horror game Poppy Playtime.
Personality[]
Marie is a spoiled, arrogant and superficial teenage girl, who does everything in her power to crush and humiliate the other ballet students, especially Dung Nguyen's. Marie believes that she is the most important person in the world and it evolves around her, along with thinking that everyone adores her. The reason is because her father, who used to be the owner and head priest of their church, died and her mentally broken mother decided to refurbish the church building into a department store. This lead to her and her twin brother, Beau, being spoiled by her now wealthy and neglectful mother and lost all knowledge of empathy. She thinks highly of herself and lowly of others, believing that everything is what she deserves and takes pride in her immensely rich lifestyle. If there is something that she wants, like attention or revenge against her rivals (specifically Dung), she will do anything, including underhanded actions (even if it's dangerous or even a crime), to succeed. Marie's very sour attitude comes across openly to whatever and whoever she despises, but to manipulate others, she will sometimes pretend to be innocent and emotionally distressed. She rarely treats any of her peers respectfully, and is even bossy, yet overprotective to her twin brother Beau.
While being callous and careless to anyone except for herself, Marie can also be quite cowardly. She is easily scared of danger often caused by possessed villains. Having helped cause some people to be possessed into a villain, Marie, to her own horror and confusion, finds herself as their victim for revenge. Despite some of the villains calling her out for her snotty behavior, Marie denies it and believes she is good. She remains with an awful persona most of the time, but occasionally, she shows a bit more kindness, sometimes expressing happiness when Leo is saving her or expressing it towards her brother. She also listens to advice at rare moments that may have to do with her bullying other people.
She has a fierce temper when angered as seen in several episodes and sometimes acts a little bit like a child or a daddy's girl when she doesn't get what she wants. On rare occasions, Marie can be courageous, and she is willingly helpful when asked by those she is close to or admires like Leo, such as helping him defeat the titled villains in "X & O". If requested for a reason, she knows how to act congenial around others as a disguise for her personality, although she often comes off as forced and can't keep it up for long.
