It's Hero Time!
~ Ben Tennyson.

Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, also known as Ben 10 or Ben Prime, is one of two main protagonists (alongside Danny Phantom) of the 2017/2022 fan-made crossover web comic 5 Years Later, a fanon continuation of the original continuities of both the Cartoon Network series Ben 10 and the Nickelodeon cartoon Danny Phantom.

As his original counterpart, at the age 10, he discovered the Omnitrix, a powerful alien device that allows him to transform into various alien species, each with unique abilities. With the help of his cousin Gwen and their Grandpa Max, Ben used the Omnitrix to fight villains, stop alien threats, and learn responsibility. As he grows older in later series, he matures into a more seasoned and confident hero.

In the official motion comic, he is voiced by Paxton Lee.

5 Years Later (5YL)[]

The story begins with Ben and Rook responding to an alarm at the Rooters’ Base. There, they mistakenly engage Danny Phantom in combat, thinking he’s an intruder. After a brief skirmish and an accidental awakening of a Way Bad, the two heroes join forces to defeat the monster. Ben takes Danny to the Plumber Base to help him find a way home. While discussing options, the two head to Bellwood after Lula reports a threat in the city.

Later, when they encounter Vlad, Ben battles him but is easily defeated. He shifts his focus to evacuating civilians while Danny keeps Vlad occupied. Ben uses Gravattack to trap Vlad, but before they can question him, Eon intervenes and helps him escape. Returning to the Plumber Base, Ben informs the Orion Squad of the battle’s events and is frustrated to discover stolen and corrupted files. He reprimands Lula for the security lapse and assigns Cooper as Acting Commander in his absence. Gwen and Kevin arrive to strategize their next steps, and the team follows Vlad’s trail into Zim’s Dimension.

Ben confronts Vlad again using UltraViolent but fails to land a blow. He tries to end the battle by collapsing a black hole with help from Danny and NRG but is knocked unconscious in the process. During this, he discovers that Eon is the true villain behind it all. Seeking Eon’s location, Ben interrogates Zim using Pesky Dust. A debate with Kevin ensues over whether Ben should use Alien X, which Ben refuses. He calls his grandfather Max for advice and then entrusts Danny with leadership responsibilities. The heroes then travel to the Keshawn Desert to confront the enemy forces.

Facing alternate versions of himself, Ben fights multiple evil Bens and, when one transforms into Planet Buster, he activates the Powerhouse Playlist to access his most powerful aliens—ultimately choosing Atomix. Back on the surface, Ben transforms into Way Big to challenge Eon, who now calls himself Divinity, but is taken down with a single punch. He helps Gwen with a spell to travel through time, but Divinity interferes. When Future Fenton arrives from the time stream, Ben—now as MonKi—fights alongside him to rescue an exhausted Danny from Vlad.

In a heated battle, Ben as Buck Wild helps Danny and Future Fenton defeat a clone army. After an argument with Danny about fleeing or fighting, Divinity strikes again. Ben uses unstable wormholes to tip the battle in their favor, but Divinity weaponizes them against him, causing a massive rupture. Ben is captured and taunted, his leadership called into question as Divinity blames him for the suffering of his team.

Ben, using Portaler, breaks free from Divinity’s grip and launches a joint attack with Danny that causes Divinity to vanish. As the Orion Squad begins to fall due to the collapsing portal, Ben uses multiple forms—The Void, Big Ben, and Full Stop—to battle Vlad and Technus and trap Vlad in a dark matter prison. However, Vlad escapes and captures Danny, forcing Ben and the Orion Squad to continue the fight. With Crawnch sacrificing himself in the process, Ben transforms into Clockwork to fix the damage to the timeline, but Divinity interrupts. A final all-out battle begins. Ben cycles through many alien forms but realizes none are enough. In the end, he’s forced to do what he’s avoided all along—transform into Alien X.

Trivia[]

  • In 5YL, Ben is is now 21-years-old, since the series is set five years after the events of Ben 10: Omniverse. He's more mature and experienced, but still retains his humor and cocky attitude.
  • Ben’s Omnitrix has evolved into a sleeker, more efficient version. It features a "playlist system" that allows him to cycle through specific alien presets quickly—like his Powerhouse Playlist for high-threat enemies
  • The series introduces unique alien forms not seen in the original shows, including Full Stop, Big Ben, Portaler, and The Void, expanding Ben’s arsenal in creative ways.
