Boyfriend is the main protagonist of the Friday Night Funkin' mod Mario's Madness.
He is an aspiring rapper who, after receiving a mysterious NES cartridge titled "MARIO" from a suspicious yellow "crewmate" would wind up being pulled, along with Girlfriend, inside the game itself, where he now must fight against the world's leader, Horror Mario along with his many "pawns" in order to escape.
Personality[]
Boyfriend's personality is rather flat all things considered. But that isn't to say he doesn't have one. He is shown to be a very determined individual, as seen by how even despite losing Girlfriend and being completely helpless, still chooses to fight, wanting to avenge his fallen partner. He's also shown to be fearless, as seen by how he was willing to face off directly against many eldritch beings, only showing fear when things got really tense, and when Girlfriend would be put in danger.
Appearance[]
Boyfriend takes on the appearance of a seemingly short boy with a backwards cap, blue hair, a t-shirt with a crossed-out circle, blue pants, and red sneakers, he wields a microphone in his right-hand, which he uses to rap battle against his enemies.
During the various duets that Boyfriend must face in the Warp Zone, Boyfriend takes on many different appearances. Such as a caveman-like appearance in the fight with Grandad. A ghost in his fight with Beta Luigi, as well as a pair of overalls against I HATE YOU Luigi.
Trivia[]
- This version of Boyfriend appears to be the same one from mods such as Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby and possibly Funkin' At Freddy's as Horror Mario mentions in the beginning cutscene that he has seen how Boyfriend has faced many creatures similar to himself while showing a shot of Hypno and Springtrap. Mickey from Wednesday's Infidelity is also mentioned by him, despite the fact that Mickey faced his Great Great Grandparent/Ancestor and not Boyfriend himself.
- This could also more or less be a reference to the fact that the mod's director, Marco Antonio, has also worked on these mods.
- To date, this mod is one of the few where Boyfriend winds up losing against his opponent, being impaled by M at the end of the final song.
- The FunkCast trailer labels Boyfriend as Daddy Dearest's son-in-law, implying that he and Girlfriend possibly got married in this continuity.
- It's implied that the entirety of Mario's Madness is actually a stage play, as revealed by the credits where Boyfriend, Girlfriend, and the various Mario characters setting up for songs within the mod. This is likely a reference to Super Mario Bros 3, as that game too was a stage play performed by Mario and the gang.
- The mod's director, Marco Antonio, disconfirmed this, saying everything after All Stars is non-canon but rather a legend. However, he's allowed people to interpret the ending as they please.[1]
