Philip Wittebane, better known as Emperor Belos, is one of the two overarching protagonists (Aside from Evil Eda) of MoringMark's Owl House AU comic Evil Luz AU.
Unlike his original sociopathic counterpart, this version of Belos is an affable and benevolent emperor of the Boiling Isles who works on the side of good.
Biography[]
After stumbling into the Demon World by accident 50 years ago, Philip had a blast with the residents there, although his brother did not feel the same. To protect the Boiling Isles, Philip had to kill his brother.
By saving them, everyone in the Boiling Isles loved Philip, and made him their emperor. He gave himself the name Belos, and began to be a kind ruler over the world, despite not liking authority himself.
One day, he would meet Evil Luz, who would proclaim that she would try and take Belos down, and Belos seemed open to the idea because he loved seeing new faces. Luz was surprised to see that the emperor of the Boiling Isles was so chill and was weirded out by him. Later on, Luz manages to convince Hunter that Belos is evil after seeing him work as an employee for P.E.T.A, upon which Hunter, thanks to his yes-man attitude, immediately helps Luz "defeat" Belos by closing the portal. Thus, it's presumed that Belos is stuck in the human realm currently until someone lets him back in.
Personality[]
The complete opposite of his canon counterpart, Philip is an affable and easy-going pacifist who is kind to anybody who meets, showing no offense towards Luz barging into his castle. Under his rule, the Boiling Isles seem to have become a much friendlier place, with Philip spreading messages of peace and joy to its residents. Furthermore, unlike his canon counterpart, Philip lacks any delusions and self-righteousness, seeing as he genuinely regrets killing Caleb to defend the Isles from him and seems very open to other ideologies.
Trivia[]
- Belos is significantly younger here than is canon counterpart, who had been artificially extending his life for centuries. He's most likely in his late 60s to early 70s.
- With this in mind, he was likely born between the 1960s and 70s during the "hippie era", which would explain why he dresses like one.
- While Belos seems to be pure-hearted for the most part, he is apparently an employee of P.E.T.A, an animal rights organization infamous for the high mortality rates of the animals under its care and frequent controversial claims. It's possible that Belos is trying to change the organization for the better or that P.E.T.A in this universe provides better care to its animals and is less controversial.
