The Engineer (real name Dell Conagher), is a supporting character in Soul Bringer. He is a mercenary hired by Mann Co. during the Gravel War in 1968 who specializes in constructing various gadgets, weapons, and contraptions that help his team. Later on, his skills come into handy after he joins Lady Emeraldblade's team.
Appearance[]
The Engineer has a semi-light skin tone and a small build. His eyes are covered by a pair of black welding goggles and has a visible five o' clock shadow on his facial area.
His main outfit consists of a yellow hard hat on his head, a red shirt with a yellow insignia on both shoulders, a pair of black overalls with yellow kneepads, a belt with two satchels on each side, and a pair of black workman's boots. On his right hand, he wears a yellow electrical safety glove, which conceals his prosthetic hand, which he lost in a past accident.
Personality[]
The Engineer is a soft-spoken, genius mechanic, who takes great pride in the inventions and machines he constructs. He often times likes to make wise-cracking comments where someone falls for his traps., but also gives really frustrated when someone outsmarts or even destroys his devices.
History[]
Very little is known about the Engineer except that he was one of nine mercenaries hired by Mann Co. to battle its rival competition in an endless conflict known as the Gravel War in the year 1968. When the war ended following Saxton Hale's surrender at the hand of Gray Mann's daughter Olivia, his career went into jeopardy. After Olivia made numerous bad corporate decisions, Mann Co. was forced to file for bankruptcy, thus leading to the Engineer, alongside his eight colleagues being laid off. He and his team sought refuge in an abandoned subsidiary of his former employer by establishing a bunker in its ruins.
For several decades, the Engineer kept a low profile in the makeshift base with his team, working on various inventions that could help them in some way while also doubling as the handy man in the facility.
In 2024, while out on an "important" mission in Roswell, the Soldier, the Demoman, and the Sniper brought back a mysterious woman to the base. There they introduced her to him, whilst learning that her name was Lady Emeraldblade, and subsequently ate dinner with her. After the meal, the Engineer and his team learned that Emeraldblade was searching for Merasmus, an evil sorcerer that the team had previous encounters with in the past which the young woman believed was working for another, more dangerous individual named Nightmare. The Medic subsequently brings up an invention to the Engineer that he had been working on recently that could possibly help them with finding Merasmus, to which Emeraldblade eagerly suggests they take a look at.
While inside his lab, the Engineer shows both Lady Emeraldblade and the Medic his newest invention: the Necro-Detector, a device that can track down pockets of undead at any part in the world. Knowing that Merasmus is a necromancer, the Engineer believes they can use this trait to their advantage to locate the evil wizard. They locate a large pocket in Cheesman Park, a suburb located southwest of Denver, Colorado and bring up the new to the other mercenaries, all of which agree to take up the task of locating and defeating Merasmus to stop Nightmare's plan.
Engineer, alongside the Medic and the Sniper agree to go along with Emeraldblade to Denver, while the rest of the team stays back to prepare for the mission at hand.
