Jake Ryan is the main titular protagonist in the 2020 WattPad fanfiction, Critical Multiverse.
He is a 17-year-old teenager who lived a life filled with misery, misfortune, and pain due to his experience with his home and school life, social life even to the point. Jake is portrayed as a tragic teen who had suffered from issues regarding his identity, insecurities, anger, and trauma from his tormentors, including his own family.
However, it all changes when his worlds ended up fully merging other worlds from different universes in their timelines and dimensions multiversally, thus resulted into the creation of the New World. Jake was then chosen by the Crossixior upon encountering Sans, that was when his life changed for the better when he had a harem, saving a city and becoming its founder (mostly savior), and the only human in his world to survive the cause.
Personality[]
Jake is portrayed as a sarcastic and cynical person from the beginning, not to mention very critical and quick-tempered before. But nevertheless has a very, very kind heart deep down, but what put aside such good and positive feelings was because the negativity came from the abuse and torment he had to live throughout his entire life, indirectly thanks to his father. Because of how he turned out to be, he begins to give in cynical comments and comedically make sarcasm to others who bully or at least tried to speak wit him, ended up receiving his opinion to quickly dislike them. He even beats down his own abusive mother whenever she lashes out and throws a tantrum senselessly when something petty came up or drunk.
But overall, Jake still cared for his family, despite they're trying to redeem themselves, he sees no such belief until the Crossover Incident happen. Before, he was just a child who was very happy to what life offered him until his father ruined it, while he was aware of everything happening, it was now cleared up that he never chose to do such things but he had to in order to give people a piece of his mind, even if it sometimes doesn't prevail. He still cared for his family and their well-being, but didn't bother to because he felt that they don't need his help until his eyes and heart were finally brought to reality when Hood killed them all, despite it was the Unknown indirectly.
After the events occurred and the Crossixior chose Jake to be its recent wielder, despite stating he isn't pure of heart and was reluctant at first, the advice the sword itself gives to him states that he didn't know better and was only misunderstood despite his awareness, but had an impact to Jake to become a more better changed person and to overcome his issues.
Upon recent changes to him, Jake became more than just heroic and matured, but also more opened, kind, thoughtful, and selfless, but despite being critical, he only uses it when it is necessary. However, there are still some flaws that involves his comically sarcasm, his anger (but still has control over it), and perversion (less to minimum), but Jake knew better as he practiced with his mentors from their worlds to become more fit into the hero he wanted to be if he were to subvert whatever he had inside in order to let go of his past and move on.
Throughout his life, Jake wanted to be a hero, mostly because while growing up, he had a great admiration for Superman and Iron Man, then recently All Might at his teenage years. Though some would doubt heroes will become a reality, he never shuns it away as he also happens to have a pacifistic side and a more concerned thought where he doesn't want a world filled with those who sinned against those who had done no wrong, including those abuse and violated to their rights, alongside war, in which is something he believed needed to stop. Even without or now recently with powers, Jake, deep down, wanted to be the person he wanted to be to maintain balance for the greater good.
While he despises those who commit acts against and beyond God's expectations such as rape (mostly), murder of someone important and loved to said loved one, discrimination, abuse and harm to children, and even other offenses. He still tries to find it somewhere in his heart to forgive said villain or sinner alike if he could find something to relate whatever caused their uprising or beginnings to their villainy. Machine Head, from later seasons, is a good example, but despite Jake still treats him as an enemy, he genuinely believed there was good in the mechanically modified mobster since he cherishes family like Jake does, which started a good and decent friendship between them, despite they still treat each other as equal enemies. But there are times he can't sympathize with or to the villain if whatever they've done that is so abhorrent, he sees no reason for said villain to use whatever excuse they have in their past, but in his case, the Thousand, aka Carlo Violago, was the primary example to Jake's opinions, as Carlo has no excuse and only committed his crimes for "fun", which was something Jake ultimately despised him for, not only for his torment against him, but how horrible he treats others without remorse. But of course, Jake is still willing to kill villains, only if they continue harming others for sick amusement and are completely beyond redemption or listening to reason, which leaves Jake to have no choice but to end their lives in order to prevent more victims.

- He is based on the creator of the series, Jacob Kyle Fabie.
- He was the first human and character in his world and series in-story, to have a Stand for the very first time.
- It was stated that Jake has over three conditions to his health, which were Asthma, Autism, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD, for short). However, such conditions rid away when he began his transformation when the Crossixior given him his powers.
- Apart, from his hobby of reading manga, he stated in-series that he began reading literary novels of sorts. But out of what he read, his most favorite novel to read was Stephen King's Insomnia.
- His most favorite anime before the Crossover Incident is My Hero Academia. Funnily enough, he happens to have a great friendship shared with Izuku Midoriya, whose apart of his organization and they happen to be best friends.
- The first ever character from another universe he ever encountered was Sans, in return they both share a close bond.
- Jake was mostly known to have admire Kohei Horikoshi and Doug Walker (who played Nostalgia Critic) in his world.
- Jake's favorite type of Waifus basically depends on his tastes for girls and women based on each genre or type they are. Such as he likes a woman with perfect blond hair, perfect light skin, and what he described "thicc" (Yu Takeyama), a teen girl whose a gal and has perfect messy hair with an attitude (Setsuna Tokage), and a girl with a kuudere-related personality and has somewhat of a minor mischievous side yet still cares for her lover (Clara Lazuli) as one of those examples of Waifus he thinks firstly before choosing said Waifu he could love, etc.
- Out of all the enemies he encountered, including his own archenemy Delnos. His most hated enemy out of them was none other than his bully and tormentor, Carlo Violago, aka the Thousand. Under obvious reasons such as making him as miserable as he is now and defiled Chloe behind his very eyes by allowing David to do the said heinous deed against her will. He, alongside David, are the primary reason for his trauma and his subverted cynical, sarcastic, and harsh personality from the beginning when he was a neutral person now flawed for what they've done. But afterwards now that Jake has changed for the better, he still does not forgive Carlo/The Thousand and David alike for what they've done to Chloe, including himself. Even when he stated he was worse than Delnos, the latter still considers Delnos a threat because he was still no better than the Thousand under his experience.
- His favorite Japanese songs are Just Awake by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, POLARIS by Blue Encount, Haruka Mirai by Kankaku Pierrot, homura by LiSA, and My Hero by MAN WITH A MISSION.
