James is the deuteragonist of the Five Nights at Wario’s series.
He is man who was originally nothing more than a worker at Wario's Fast Food Factory, helping Richard McRoy during his night shift by calling him over the phone. However, James accidentally becomes entangled in the inter-dimensional conflict against EMMA, a supernatural virus that placed a curse on the factory, leading James to being the only person who can defeat her.
He is voiced by the series creator Triple Wario.
Biography[]
Five Nights at Wario's[]
James is a worker at the newly re-opened Wario's Fast Food Factory. He calls the new night guard Richard McRoy during his night shifts in order to inform him on how to properly look after the factory. James also tells him about the history of the factory, and how Wario and his brother Waluigi opened the factory, employing Mario, Luigi, and Peach, only for the five of them to all disappear. James eventually decides to go to the factory himself during Richard's 5th night, but once he tries to open the doors the phone call suddenly cuts out. What happened is that EMMA, the supernatural virus that has cursed the factory attempted to kill James, but he was saved at the last minute by Christopher Peterson, who transported him to the future in order to save his life.
Five Nights at Wario's 4[]
James is seen again during the cross-game quest, having been teleported to the future by Christopher and ending up in his lab. James is unable to find Christopher, but discovers audio logs explaining what has happened to the world. James stays in the lab and proceeds to make actual video games based off of the events of the past involving EMMA and sends them back in time in order to warn people and prevent the virus from spreading, doing all of this without EMMA's detection by hiding messages in the games. After finishing them EMMA comes to the future in order to kill James, but he is ultimately able to defeat her by using an electrical device in Christopher's lab, shocking EMMA enough times to dispel her virus. Christopher then finally appears to James, thanking him for defeating EMMA. James fears what will happen to him, as he believes that by changing the past his current self will never exist, but Christopher explains that James still has a place in the universe, and should not fear what comes next.
Five Shows at Wario's[]
It is revealed that James sent a message to his past self telling him to remove the cursed book that unleashed EMMA in the first place, therefore stopping the virus from ever existing in the mortal world. This leads to Entity 01 making a deal with Bruno Gate in order to escape from the Grey City and reach the mortal world, but he is eventually stopped by Wario using electricity in the same way James defeated EMMA. With EMMA and Entity 01 defeated, James continued living in the mortal world, likely unaware that an alternate version of himself aided in saving the world.
Trivia[]
- An alternate version of James appears in the cellar during Five Shows at Wario's, being significantly more villainous due to this version of him aiding Entity 01 in tormenting Bruno Gate. It's possible this version of him was an illusion or he was being possessed by Entity 01.
