WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW

Dr. Jim Nyras is a major protagonist in the upcoming Al Timotheus (Tim O'Hayre) Creepypasta horror fan film Nyras.

Character background[]

From what is told in the original stories Eyeless Jack, the parents of the titular character are never mentioned or have a role. This inspired O'Hayre to come up with his own interpretation of Jack's family, starting with his father, who he named Jim Nyras, a successful doctor, which makes sense because Jack is often shown to express interest in medicine.

Biography[]

James Nyras was born in Alberta, Canada between the late 1950s and the early 1960s. He is the son of Harold Nyras, an American-born honorable military officer who served in both the United States and Canadian Armed Forces, fighting in Korea and Vietnam, as well as being a notable healthcare professional who served in the Royal Canadian Medical Service from the 1970s until his retirement in the 1990s. Growing up, Jim was fascinated by his father's work and aspired to be a doctor and dedicate his career to helping others. Sometimes, Jim would express interest in joining the military himself, especially during the armed conflicts in the Middle East. However, Harold discouraged his son from becoming a soldier, for he did not want him to expose himself to the trauma of war like he had. Jim was both well-educated and well-behaved throughout his school years, earning outstanding grades and winning numerous medical scholarships. Eventually, he completed med school around the mid-to-late-1980s and, having earned his license began his career as a surgeon in various fields.

Somewhere between 1986 and 1988, Jim met a woman named Emily, who was just starting her career as a mental health professional in psychology and psychiatry. As they were both doctors in their own fields, they fell in love right away, and they eventually married between 1989 and 1990. One day in 1993, Jim helps his wife deliver their first child, a son, whom they name Jack. While both are naturally excited about their new baby, Jim has a strange feeling about his son's presence. He starts doing some research on the supernatural and paranormal in hopes of satisfying his curiosity. When discovers the legend of a cryptic entity whose existence seems to share similarities with the circumstances of his son's birth, Jim vows to find this creature to capture for experimental research. However, he decides to keep this a secret and not tell anyone unless he can trust certain people enough.

The years pass, and Jim, while finding time for his family, continues working hard at his job, rising through the ranks from the later 1990s and throughout the 2000s. While his skepticism about his son continues to gradually grow, he still treats Jack with all his respect and love. He even supports Jack when he tells him that he wants to be a doctor too. Jack also expresses interest in joining the RCMS, inspired by his grandfather, but Harold does not show such enthusiasm about the idea of Jack joining the military, which would sometimes annoy Jim. As Jack drew closer to the end of his high school education, he would, with the help of his father, begin to practice hard for when he began medical school. Little did Jack know that ominous times loomed ahead.

One day, between spring and summer 2010, Jim is driving from work to attend one of Jack's health extracurricular events. He is almost there, when disaster strikes. All of a sudden, a car from the other lane violently swerves towards Jim, who brakes as hard as he can, but cannot avoid the other car sideswiping and smashing into his front, causing a huge wreck. The blunt force trauma causes severe injuries all over Jim's body before he passes out. News of the accident spreads, and Jim is soon declared dead, much to the devastation of Jack and the rest of the Nyras family. Jack, who is the most upset by the apparent loss of his father, largely distances himself from his friends and loved ones, focusing more on his studies than socialization.

Meanwhile, Jim, who turns out to be still alive, wakes up in the dimly lit operating room of an unknown research facility. He is met by a team of doctors and scientists, some of which are revealed to be descended relatives of Harold's oldest friends from both the healthcare industry and the military. They tell Jim that he knows too much about the anomalies regarding Jack, which also implies that they were behind the "accident." With this in mind, they make Jim an offer, which is that they will fully heal his injuries if he promises not to tell anyone about their plans.
