Junko Enoshima is the main antagonist of Danganronpa, and one of the tritagonists of The Punkettes. She is a student in Hope's Peak Academy's Class 78th, and a participant of the Killing School Life featured in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Her title is Ultimate Fashionista.
After her execution, she was revived by Spyro Doomfire, who introduced Junko to Oten City, a city which is nowhere on any maps and where monsters coexist. After joining the city with Spyro, Junko eventually decided to join Punkettes High to train to become her Punkette. Afterwards, Junko attempted to follow along with her friend Clumsy Smurf and pursue higher learning, but since she lacked the qualifications she decided to work directly for Spyro instead, she became Spyro's third-in-command of The Punkettes.
Junko's career as a Punkette is a Runner. Runners travel outside of Oten City to do many tasks such as assassination, hacking, gathering information, sabotaging any information on their world, etc. She also emulates the gangster lifestyle. She and many others commonly refer to her as "Junko Escobar", "Young Junkie", "CEO of Despair" and "The Fundraiser".
Description[]
Appearance[]
At the end of the Killing School Life in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Junko appears to be a young high school-aged teenager, but due to her causing her classmate's memory loss she is two years older than they all believed her and themselves to be. She has a tall, hourglass figure, light blue eyes, and long, thick, bleached strawberry blonde hair tied in two twin pigtails. Due to her talent, she wears heavy make-up along with (possibly fake) long red nails. Despite not being identical twins, Junko and her older twin sister Mukuro Ikusaba share several physical characteristics. However, Junko has a considerably larger chest than Mukuro, and weighs two pounds more than her. Junko's eyes are more round and larger, and are blue with her contacts or naturally red compared to Mukuro's light purple eyes. Junko also lacks freckles.
Junko's usual outfit includes a black cardigan over a white dress shirt, with both left open to the third button to expose the top of her black-and-red bra, a red pleated miniskirt, and mid-sized black boots with platform heels and red laces. Her cardigan is accented with white symbols of her Former High School. She accessories with a long tie that hangs loosely around her neck with a design alternates between pure white (Danganronpa 3) and as half black and white with a prohibition sign on it (Danganronpa 1) that hangs loosely around her neck, a thin black choker, a red bow above her left breast, and two buttons on her right side.
Her most notable accessory is her signature twin bear hair clips that are based on Monokuma's two sides. The right clip is completely white bear with dot eyes and a neutral expression, while the left is a black bear with a white muzzle, jagged red eyes, and a wicked smile. During her time at Hope's Peak Academy, she instead wore a set of hair slips of a cute bunny and a large red and white bow. This is the outfit her sister Mukuro wore when masquerading during the Killing School Life.
Due to her constantly-shifting personalities, Junko's appearance shifts slightly with her mood. Her "royal" personality dons a small gold and red crown with encrusted jewels, her "intellectual" personality wears glasses and styles her hair in a ponytail, her "depressed" personality sports a few multicolored mushrooms on top of her head, and her "cute" personality simplifies her entire appearance to appear more cartoonish, including smoother pigtails, large, bright eyes, and a small smile.
In Danganronpa Zero, it's stated that she looks much more average without her make-up. It's also shown that her natural hair and eye color is red, considering her she doesn't remember being "Junko Enoshima" while assuming her alternative identity: Ryōko Otonashi.
In (chronologically) earlier installments of the series, such as Danganronpa Zero and Monaca Towa's flashbacks in Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, Junko is seen in the third variation of her Hope's Peak Academy outfit. Her cardigan has been removed, and her dress shirt is buttoned up to hide her bra. Her red bowtie is pinned on the left side of her dress shirt, and her right pigtail is held by a black bunny clip with red eyes. She also wears a black miniskirt and a new tie that lacks the circled X and has a different balance of white and black; the collar and knot are white, while the rest is black. Junko's nails are still painted red, but they are much shorter than in her other outfits.
Personality[]
Junko's personality and mannerisms tended to be extremely erratic and unstable by her own autonomous design; she states in-game that keeping up one "appearance" for too long bores her. However, she is capable of maintaining one persona for extended periods of time when necessary, such as when she was overseeing the students through Monokuma.
Junko often switched between "moods," which included (but was not limited to) her Monokuma persona, sickening cuteness, clinical sophistication, and haughty superiority. She switched between "moods" regularly, often imitating other students' expressions, which made for highly unsettling conversation to the survivors. She is also shown to be intelligent, cunning, somewhat impulsive, and very manipulative, as shown by her being able to manipulate an unknown number of people into joining Ultimate Despair.
Above all, however, Junko was deeply obsessed with despair, having found despair to be one of the most enjoyable emotions for her, whether it be the inflicting of despair unto others, or suffering from despair wholeheartedly. This often proves to be her biggest weakness, as she gives her opponents a "fair" chance to defeat her in order to make their despair all the greater if they fail, and she happily welcomes her own despair if her plans fail.
Junko's personality can be very hard to predict and can easily vary depending on the situation. She can sometimes be a sympathetic girl who has a genuine good core, an obnoxious jerk who abuses her friends and doesn't care about anyone (but in a comedic manner), or a ruthless smug cad who commits extremely dark and serious acts such as relentlessly torturing innocent people that isn't meant to be funny.
Junko also possess a highly sarcastic and great sense of humor that irritates and annoys most of her enemies. She regularly insults and belittles her enemies and friends to her own enjoyment, even people who could easily kill her such as Pepper. Junko even mocks and makes fun of Spyro, even going as far to give her insulting nicknames. Junko is also similarly sarcastic to Pepper, albeit in a much more spiteful and hate-filled way than she does Spyro, even going as far as to only refer to Pepper as a "fucktard". Junko feels no shame and can make a joke out of any situation. Only a few select people are able to withstand her seemingly never ending inability to stop talking, such as Jeno, Kiota, $py64, Clumsy, and Leakianmishi.
Junko loves cartoons, Skee-Ball, video games, heavy metal music, television shows, movies, and American and Japanese pop culture. Her favorite musical bands are Metallica and AC/DC. She remains very pop-cultured, referencing The Matrix, RoboCop, Alien 3, 127 Hours, Adventure Time, Spongebob Squarepants, The Ren and Stimpy Show, Captain Underpants, Gravity Falls, Cocoon, the X-Men Movies, The Chronicles of Narnia, Family Guy, South Park, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, The DC Extended Universe, Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Boondocks, Panty and Stocking, Lucky Star, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, The Simpsons, her own Danganronpa series, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the Shrek series, Aliens in the Attic, the Osomatsu series and it is implied that she is a huge fan of Star Wars. Junko herself is aware that she is a fictional character in a crossover anime and belittles this by breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to the audience, even sometimes insulting the viewers for fun. She also has a habit of mocking the infamous Pooh's Adventures fad.
When not killing people or causing despair, Junko usually watches TV and movies, plays video games, listens to very loud music, goes on random high jinks with the other Punkettes, and drinks copious amounts of soda and alcohol. Junko is also a slacker, as she almost never does anything Spyro or Mina tells her to do, constantly screws around during jobs, and overall spend most of her time doing whatever she wants. Junko is also shown to be very untidy and messy around the mansion, often leaving trash on the ground and throwing her soda and beer cans on the ground even when a trash can is right next to her. Junko's dorm at the mansion is also a mess and rarely gets cleaned, with clothes piled on the floor and leftover food and drinks scattered everywhere. There are also fist-sized holes in the walls, and her definition of cleaning her room is to just stuff things under her bed. She almost never cleans her room unless Spyro forces her to.
Junko is also very arrogant, narcissistic, and egomaniacal. After she becomes president of the United States in "Junkoland", she enslaves a group of people and forces them to build statues in her likeness and even renames the United States "J.U.N.K.O.". Junko also likes to think she is imposing and dangerous but has basically no defense from being actually attacked. In "Junko V. Spyro", she's perfectly willing to antagonize Spyro right up until she'll fight her, then spends the entire episode trying to avoid the conflict she willfully spawned. Once their fight arrives, Spyro quickly wipes the floor with her.
Her boredom is interrelated with her fascination with despair, as she believes it is the only emotion worth having. Her motives center around causing despair either in others or herself. Due to this, Junko is willing to do anything to bring about despair. In overall terms of personality, she is an incredibly unpredictable, psychotic, treacherous and pitiless sadist by nature, and cares nothing more than to create despair and misery towards other people. She tends to unpredictably switch between different personalities, each of them more obsessed with despair than she already is.
Junko can also be incredibility childish, with Spyro even calling Junko a "lazy, and insane child with too much power", and is usually very unemphatic to the people she hurts. The very dark, usually disturbing undertones to her personality often hint at an extreme mental imbalance. Apart from being portrayed as having a general lack of moral responsibility or social conscience, she also seems to take pleasure from others' misfortune and is generally unable to show empathy, although there have been exceptions. Despite the severity of her actions, it is likely that they are a type of emotional defense mechanism against her insecurity and (potential) confused sexuality. Junko is also willing to pretend to be nice to get what she wants — the gloves come off the second she doesn't. Sometimes she isn't even that good at being affable and relies on pity to manipulate.
However, despite her psychopathy, Junko is still highly intelligent, even showing traces of her psychologist expertise, as Junko was able to make swift breakdowns of the psychological profiles of her teammates, knowing exactly what to say in order to get under their skin (proudly referring to herself as "vexing"), though Spyro calls her out on this. Her intellect also extends itself to tactical skills, as Junko notably suggested to Spyro, Shira, and Clumsy a feasible escape option, and even swiftly improvised a plan to weaken and take down the extremely powerful Pepper Satanica, which proved successful. Junko is also quite tough and pathologically fearless, fighting alongside the Punkettes and having fun doing so. With the team, she is shown to get along well with them, once she got to know them a bit better, with Junko acting as a bartender at a derelict bar.
Most of her time is spent causing despair, killing people, getting wasted, partying, playing video games, watching TV and going wherever she wants, doing whatever she wants, and costing thousands of dollars of damage with her drunken or sober tomfoolery. She once even started a riot at the Super Bowel purely to sit back and enjoy the chaos.
Despite this, Junko does have a soft side. As she cares a considerable deal for the other Punkettes but has trouble expressing her love for them. Junko was also disgusted by some of Pepper's cruel acts like brainwashing Boss Demon. Although she causes despair to those, she saved the universe many times from the many threats (even if it is for her own selfish reasons), redeemed Boss Demon from Pepper.

Powers and Abilities[]
After being revived by Spyro while practicing her resurrection spell, Junko began to possess incredible supernatural powers and superhuman abilities. Being one of the strongest Punkettes, Junko did prove to be more of a challenge than most of the heroes who tried to face Pepper.
- Inhuman Strength: Junko has superhuman levels of strength. It is virtually impossible for any normal human to overpower her, as seen when she was able to fight off several demons who attempted to hold her back. Her enhanced strength allows her to physically overpower combatants including elite-trained humans, demonic troops, and robot sentries. Junko can bend metal bars with visible effort, throw full-grown adults across several feet, slam through solid walls and reinforced glass, and pry open steel doors. Junko's kicks and punches are also very powerful, strong enough to send demons like Topaz (who also has superhuman strength) flying back several meters. She could also knock out Hoshiko and Abby in a single punch. When forced to do so by the Sentry, Junko was also capable of lifting a 700 ton sumo wrestler over her head for about ten seconds, although she did strain herself while doing so. She was also able to casually overpower several members of the Cult of Satanica simultaneously, break human skulls with one punch, easily snap human necks, and cut limbs off with a single knife strike.
- Enhanced Durability: Junko's bones and muscles are denser and much harder than average humans, which makes her almost cartoonishly durable and intolerant to pain. In fact, as Spyro has noted, getting hurt only seems to make Junko stronger when in a fight. Though she is not bulletproof, she can survive extreme blunt force trauma, such as being hit with solid objects like giant boulders and speeding cars, or contact with supernatural opponents like Pepper, and Topaz. She is capable of surviving falls from immense heights that would eventually kill a normal human without any sort of protection. Thus, Junko was still walking after the intense beat-down inflicted on her by Spyro. She also survived being bombarded with bombs, numerous lightning strikes, being ran over by a car, being mauled by polar bears, drinking gallons of bleach and gasoline, eating multiple tide pods, jumping off a skyscraper, shooting her head off with a shot gun, lethal experiments, multiple hits from the likes of superpowered beings such as Pepper, Spyro, the Gatekeeper of the Nightmare Realm, Pepper's Minions and even endured a nuclear explosion. Even when she was violently bitten by Pepper on the wrist, which nearly tore her arm off, Junko only used the pain to amp herself up by continuously hitting the wound while in combat.
- Incredible Speed: Junko can run and move at speeds far beyond the peak of human potential. She can run faster than most standard vehicles and covered a small area such as city blocks as well. Spyro stated that Junko ran up to 60 miles in about 5 minutes. She is also capable of moving fast enough to easily outmaneuver rapid gunfire. She also defeated an entire team of assassins alongside Spyro and Clumsy in about 1/3 of a second. While trying to get a universe crystal with Makoto in a temple, Junko was forced to dodge beams of sunlight that were part of the temple's booby traps, which would make Junko's top reaction speed around 70% the speed of light.
- Enhanced Agility: Junko's agility is greater than that of an Olympic-gold medalist and superior to the world's best acrobat. She can coordinate her body with perfect balance, equilibrium, flexibility, and dexterity. During her chase with Benny Kisimako, she was able to leap from the inside of an apartment into the building across the street. Junko can also leap over cars with simple running moves. Junko can use her enhanced agility to perform amazing parkour and gymnastic moves that would be truly difficult for a normal human to accomplish. Confined spaces could not limit her movement at all, as shown with her overpowering A group of demons inside of a cramped elevator.
- Enhanced Stamina: Years of constant action in her life has left Junko's body with exceptional endurance and lung capacity, far greater than of normal humans. Junko could exert herself at peak capacity for several hours without slowing down or showing any sign of fatigue, allowing her to run for dozens of miles and fight for extremely long periods. During the Battle of Fridnika II, Junko fought Pepper's army for hours on end, and kept fighting with little signs of fatigue despite numerous injuries. Additionally, Junko can hold her breath underwater for several minutes and will not lose breath or get exhausted due to her stamina extending to her lung capacity. Junko was also able to run for 60 miles without any noticeable sign of fatigue.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Junko's flexibility, balance, dexterity, and coordination are well-beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete. she has inhuman leaping capabilities, able to jump several feet from a stationary position, and with her body control, able to execute a variety of complex twists, turns, and flips while in mid air. she could jump onto a wall and then propel herself toward her enemy in a kick. Junko is also very alert and fast reacting, able to dodge and deflect bullets without much effort. she can react to multiple opponents simultaneously, even from behind to quickly counter.
- Regenerative Powers: It has been shown that Junko has an accelerated rate of healing and regeneration. Junko is immune to earthly infections, diseases, and disorders. Junko's metabolic rate is able to withstand the consumption of gallons of bleach and gasoline, and even a godly ale which was aged for a millennium deemed by Kiroto to not be intended for mortals to drink. Junko is capable of healing large cuts and bruises within hours and some gunshot wounds and fractures within an hour. Junko was able to regenerate from having her limbs broken by Spyro and being stabbed in several areas by Hoshiko Kyohaku in a matter of minutes. She also healed completely from nearly having her arm torn off by Pepper in a matter of a couple hours. Junko also has the ability to heal dismembered limbs with ease, when she Pepper bit her hand off, Junko immediately regenerated her hand with little effort. Later in the episode, the chopped off hand regenerated into another Junko. However, Junko's regeneration has a limit, as she was not able to heal herself from being shot multiple times in the chest by a man in "Captain Junko".
- Advanced Longevity: Spyro noted that she seemingly made Junko immortal because of the powerful regenerative powers she gained from the former's resurrection spell. Between her healing powers able to undo nearly any damage and keep her from aging, Junko is practically unkillable.
- Body Control: Junko is shown to have some level of control over her appearance, as she once shed her skin like a snake, changed the pigment of her skin to appear black, and turned into a beach ball.
- Gravity Manipulation: Junko has the ability to rotate small objects around her body. Much like most of her "superpowers", Junko was only seen using this ability for a one-off joke.
- Absorption: Junko can become more durable and powerful by absorbing radiation, drinking alcohol, and doing drugs.
- Fourth-Wall Awareness: Junko is very much aware that she is a character for the audience's amusement. She has communicated and spoke directly to the audience numerous times.
- Broadway Force: Junko can tap into the Broadway Force, by spontaneously breaking into song and dance, causing everyone and everything around them to become bound by it, and compelled to join in.
- Enhanced Senses: Junko's natural senses have been enhanced to the peak of human potential. She can see, hear, smell, feel, and taste things imperceptible to humans. This allows her to see further, hear with amazing clarity, detect specific persons, objects, substances with her smell, etc. She was able to notice little things such as sweat drop trickling down a man's face to tip him off to danger.
- Shape-Shifting: Junko, when outside of Oten City, can immediately create an illusion form to look more like someone else, as to not draw attention from the police and the Future Foundation. With the assistance of Kiota's shapeshifting spell, Junko can change into virtually any form she desires, from a giant dragon to a small insect, a handsome man, or a dragon, although the spell only lasts 2 hours to 2 days depending on the amount used.
Former Powers[]
Abilities wielding the Captain Mikaru helmet: Due to the enchantments placed on the mystic Captain Mikaru helmet, Junko was given considerable increase in her physical abilities, as well as incredibly advanced weapons.
- Homing Bullets: Using the powers of the helmet, Junko was able to control bullets fired from a special gun. With this skill, she is capable of killing an entire army before they could have time to react, or eliminating entire starships and planets.
- Galaxy Destroying Grenade: On Junko's belt lies a small fusion bomb that, despite its size, was powerful enough to reduce an entire galaxy to nothingness. The grenade works by first obliterating the target it was thrown at and than the omnidirectional blast it given off continues to expand eventually engulfing the entire galaxy and possibly more than that. The grenade is assumed to be Captain Mikaru helmet's most powerful weapon.
- Power Gauntlets: Using a pair of advanced Power Gauntlets, Junko's strength and striking power was greatly enhanced. She could send people flying several hundred meters away with a simple flick of her fingers, fire lasers from her palms, and create massive shockwave attacks by punching the ground.
- Flight: Junko uses the Helmet's jet-pack like devices to seamlessly fly through the air, giving her great mobility in combat.
- X-Ray Vision: Using the Helmet, Junko has the ability to see through walls and through the bodies of living organisms.
- Survival in Space: While wearing the Helmet, Junko requires no air whatsoever while in space, and is also immune to the effects of her body having no air.
- Teleportation: By pressing a button on the side of the Helmet, Junko could instantly teleport to wherever she desired, whether it be a few feet away, or across spacetime.

Trivia[]
- The Punkettes version of Junko is arguably the strongest Junko Enoshima incarnation of all time. A short list of her feats include killing a team of trained assassins in about 1/3 of a second, survived a fall from orbit, lifting the stone-made Mansion over her head, defeating Pepper three times, fighting off Osana's armed forces and an entire alien empire with ease (albeit enhanced by the Captain Mikaru helmet); defeated an entire cult without problems with a little help from Spyro and Clumsy; survived a brutal beating by Spyro; and saved the universe three times.
- The reason $py64 the Wolf made Junko a comic relief anti-heroic character like Deadpool was because she felt that using her original psychotic murderous villain personality would be boring to her. Incidentally, Pepper Satanica has that personality.
- She can play the guitar perfectly provided she is drunk.
- Junko has broken out of 150 prisons.
- Although she said to be a virgin, she has been seen having sex on various occasions.
- Junko is arguably even more evil than President Romu, as "Junkoland" showcases. While Romu mistreats and abuses his power and killed many to get where he is, he did make sure America had some type of order, warped though it may have been, and Romu did, in fact, respect America, the American way, and its many laws. Contrasting this, Junko, once in power, uses the flag as a doormat, shreds the Constitution, and turns America into a lawless hellhole, but she doesn't even try to convince Americans that she's the hero the way that Romu attempted to; she knows she's the bad girl here, she's loving every minute of it and she especially loves making sure they know it.
- Junko is notorious for being a terrible driver. In "Runaway Monokuma", she weaves around active airplanes (including one that's landing at the airstrip) to shake Osana off, which gets most of her classmates killed. She drives so insanely fast that Haruko can barely keep up with her.
- According to Spyro, sometimes when Junko gets drunk, she goes outside The Punkettes Mansion, and throws grenades into random locations.
- Junko died multiple times throughout the Punkettes.
- Crushed by the block (just like the original Danganronpa)
- Had her throat slit by gerbils.
- Presumably shot to death by the same gerbils.
- Throat slit by ants.
- Suicide via gunshot.
- Suicide via hanging.
- Head crushed by logs.
- An aneurysm caused by The Emoji Movie.
- Cut up into 666 pieces by Topaz.
- Mauled by a Tiger.
- Car crash.
- Killed by Russian assassin via gunshot.
- Electrocuted to death after sticking a fork in an outlet.
- Junko was originally going to die in "To Junko Mountain" and "Day of Judgement" but on both occasions $py64 backed out.
- Junko is allergic to Hope.
- Junko believes in the Illuminati.
- Junko has been banned from several establishments presumably to her annoying nature, including Cesar's, Costco, three of Spyro's hotels, and several Burger King's.
- Junko thinks reading is for nerds.
- Her voice changes several times in order to represent her changing personalities.
- Junko is represented on the Satanica Zodiac as the Monokuma Hair clips.
- Junko, along with her own namesake theme park Junkoland from the titular Season 4 episode, share similarities with the sinister monarch King Bowser (with World Bowser and Bowser Land) from the Super Mario Bros. franchise and the mad scientist Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik (with Eggmanland and Robotnikland) from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe.
