I do not force my faith unto others. It is a path they chose by themselves.
~ Kinji Uehara on his second free time event.
Just like how the kids don't want me to be a bloody murderer, i don't want the kids to lose their lives.
~ Kinji explaining why he committed murder.

Kinji Uehara is a supporting antagonist in the Korean Danganronpa fangame Danganronpa Another. He's the Ultimate Priest.

He is the culprit in chapter 3, where he kills Kakeru and Kanata. While part of the murder was done to escape, he also wanted to protect the church's children, whom Monokuma threatened to kill if Kinji did not act.

Personality[]

Kinji is a catholic priest with a heavy devotion to faith and preaching. However, he doesn’t force his faith unto others. Instead, he just shows people what he believes is the right path for them to take, and respects their choice regarding it. He also seems to only discuss his religion with people who ask about it. His motto is that he wants to use his words to change the world.

Kinji is not as social as the other classmates, and during the Killing Game, he thought it was better to spend time to investigate rather than socializing, He also believes that being too close with someone could hurt his dedication to faith. However, he was still able to get along with Yuki and become his friend (along with the others before the Tragedy).

Overall, Kinji was a respectful person who was mostly on his own. Things only changed for the worse when Monokuma threatened to kill the 100 homeless children being raised by the church unless Kinji committed a murder. While Kinji didn’t want to commit murder, he saw no choice as he would rather have a few people to die rather than a hundred children. Even when he was about to die, he was happy that he at least (seemingly) saved the kids.

However, his kills were not completely selfless. According to Monokuma, simply killing someone without passing the class trial was enough to ensure the children’s safety, but he still wanted to escape from the Killing Game, and was willing to mess up the evidence and commit another murder to do so. He was also very agitated and angry while his crime was being exposed at the class trial. That being said, he was still very remorseful about his murders and believed he was going to hell for it.

Biography[]

Backgrond[]

Although Kinji was born in Japan, he was adopted and raised by an unnamed italian. Kinji would start attending church and later decided to become a catholic priest, being inspired by his father, who was a well-respected Bishop. He would later move back to Japan, in order to start preaching there. His reputation was so great that he was invited to enroll in Hope’s Peak Academy as the “Ultimate Priest”. He studied there for three months.

After the tragedy happened, he and 14 other students were rescued by Yamato Kisaragi and taken to the Kisaragi Facility. However, Utsuro and Akane Taira, who were inside the facility, knocked out all sixteen students and wiped out their memories. After the Kisaragi Foundation was remodeled to look like Hope’s Peak, all students (with the exception of Yamato) were put on the 1st floor, with their memories modified to make it look like they had just joined Hope’s Peak.

Prologue[]

All students, including the mastermind, woke up inside the Kisaragi Facility, thinking they had just entered Hope’s Peak academy. Kinji woke up earlier than everybody else, thanks to Monokuma. He told Kinji that his church’s children were being held hostage, and that they will be killed unless Kinji does what he is told to do, which he agreed to, out of care for them. He was given the mission to commit a murder if a stalemate where nobody kills anyone for a while happens during the Killing Game.

After everybody else woke up and introduced themselves to each other, they were told by a mysterious voice to gather in the gym. There, Monokuma appeared and explained their situation: He claimed they were gonna stay trapped in the school forever and the only way to escape would be by committing murder and getting away with it in a class trial.

Chapter 2[]

After the deaths of Mitch and Maki, Kinjo held a meeting with all remaining students. He told them that he was willing to protect the group, but only the ones who do as he says and promise that they will never commit a crime. Rei, Kizuna and Kinji then decided to step out, not wanting to be part of Kinjo’s dictatorship.

At some point, Ayame called for help in order to extinguish a fire at the power room. Kinjo, Rei and Kinji heard it and helped put out the fire. Except for Kinji, they entered the power room and found Kizuna’s corpse, and an investigation began to find the culprit. During the class trial, Ayame was found out to be the culprit and was executed for failing to get away with her kill.

Chapter 3[]

Daily Life[]

During the investigation of the third floor, Kinji encountered a cell phone and showed it to the others during the meeting report. Unfortunately, there was no signal so they couldn’t call for help. They decided to let Kinji keep it, as he found it.

Monokuma later announced the third motive: Each student was supposed to enter a closed soundproof room, one per one, where Monokuma would supposedly show them videos of what they desired the most, and they couldn’t talk with the others about what they saw. In reality, this motive was just an excuse for Monokuma to talk with Kinji. On his videos, he once again saw the church’s children, and Monokuma told him it was time for him to commit a murder if he wanted them to be spared.

Murder plan[]

Monokuma later told Kinji that there was gonna be a commotion involving Akane next to the dorm rooms, and that it was the perfect opportunity for Kinji to kidnap Kanata Inori for the murder without anyone noticing. Kinji did as advised and took Inori to the art room to kill her, but Kakeru appeared unexpectedly and tried to rescue her. He managed to punch Kinji, picked up Inori and tried to run away, but Kinji was faster so he knocked Kakeru dead, at 8:40 PM. He then hid Kakerus' corpse in a locker room.

To create an alibi, Kinji wanted to mess up the time of death. He taped Inori’s unconscious body, put her in the science lab and turned on the sink at max capacity, to the point where the lab would, after a few hours, be flooded with water. He also connected his phone with the stun gun, put it in a desk and set up an alarm that would play at 8:40 AM, which would result in it falling off due to the vibration and electrocuting the water, killing Inori. This complicated method was done to confuse the Monokuma File.

While preparing everything, Kinji saw Rei Mekaru arrive on the third floor. He didn’t want her to mess up anything, so he used chloroform to knock her out, removed Kakeru from the locker and put Rei there. He then put Kakeru’s body in the library. Kinjo, who was also walking at night on the third floor, found it but was also knocked unconscious by Kinji. During the morning, he then returned and spilled blood (from blood packs) into Kakeru’s corpse, to make it look like he died recently.

In the morning, everyone noticed that a few people were missing and went searching for them. On the third floor, they found Rei, Kinjo and Kinji unconscious. They tried to enter the science lab but couldn’t due to the latch, and once it was 8:40 AM, the phone fell off and electrocuted the water, killing Inori. Her and Kakeru’s corpses were found at the same time. An investigation then began for the class trial.

Class Trial[]

Just like Kinji planned, everyone was confused as the Monokuma File stated that both Kakeru and Inori died at 8:40, even though there was no one who could have logically killed them at that time frame. It was only later that Yuki Maeda noticed that the file didn’t specify if they died at AM or PM.

During the investigation, Kinji claimed that he was attacked and had his phone stolen by the culprit while he was walking on the third floor. However, this made him suspicious as the murder was clearly planned ahead and it made no sense that the culprit would just hope that someone carrying the phone would conveniently appear. As more clues would appear, Kinji would get increasingly more aggressive. However, after his whole crime was exposed, he calmed down.

In the post-trial, after Monokuma confirmed that Kinji was the culprit, the latter decided to explain his motives and how he didn’t plan to kill two people at first. Kinjo called him out, stating that even if it was to save a hundred children, Kakeru and Inori were still people that deserved to live. Kinji then called him out on his hypocrisy, as Tsurugi Kinjo mentioned in one of his meetings that he also wanted to sacrifice the minority to ensure the majority survives.

Kinji calmly accepted his death, as even if he failed to escape, the cathedral’s children were supposedly saved the moment he killed Kakeru. However, Monokuma then showed him a video revealing the children’s fate: They were already dead all along. Kinji despaired as he recognized each corpse on the screen, before being executed by Monokuma.

On his execution, he was forced to carry a cross and then had his hands nailed to it. The cross was then sent flying towards space, but at some point, it fell back to earth and killed Kinji.
