Dr. Ludwig, also known as The Medic is a supporting character in Soul Bringer.
He is a former doctor turned mercenary who was originally hired by Mann Co. During the Gravel War in 1968. After the war proved inconclusive, he and the other mercenaries sided with Lady Emeraldblade in her fight against Nightmare.
Appearance[]
The Medic has light skin with, short black hair and grayish-blue eyes. He wears a pair of black glasses.
His main outfit consists of a white overcoat over a tan vest and white dress shirt and red tie. He wears dark red trousers with black boots with a grey belt with two black satchels and red surgical gloves on his hands. On his back, he carries a mechanical medical backpack which he uses to power his signature medi gun to heal his allies and deploy overcharges.
Personality[]
The medic takes great pride in his highly unorthodox medical procedures, which frequently violate the Hippocratic Oath and "First do no harm"; these actions ultimately led to him having his medical license revoked, though he wasn't affected one bit.
At times, the Medic has been described as approaching the brink of insanity sue to his maniacal laughters. But nonetheless, his skills prove otherwise useful.
The Medic has a surprisingly close relationship with Heavy, as such the two are often seen working together as a team in combat.
History[]
Little is known about the Medic prior to 1968, that year he was one of nine mercenaries hired by Mann Co. to fight off a rival branch of the corporation during conflict known as the Gravel War. The war lasted for several years before ending after Saxton Hale, the company's CEO surrendered to Gray Mann's daughter Olivia, making her the new CEO of the company. In the period of time that followed, Olivia made bad corporate decisions which ultimately led to Mann Co. filing for bankruptcy, thus leading the Medic and his friends to being laid off. His team sought refuge by establishing a secret base under the ruins of a subsidiary location of his former employer, and his team kept a low profile for the next several decades.
In 2024, the Medic and his team came across a mysterious woman named Lady Emeraldblade when three members the Soldier, the Demoman, and the Sniper encountered her while out on a mission in Roswell to retrieve an "important" package. The unlicensed doctor greeted the newcomer with intrigue, and learned more about why she was there in the first place.
While answering her questions about who they were and what they were doing in the base, he and his team learned that the female warrior was seeking to locate Merasmus, an old enemy of the team from their past, whom Emeraldblade believed was working for Nightmare, a mysterious entity who was bent upon destroying the universe. After seemingly losing any leads to the evil wizard, the Medic brings up a suggestion to the Engineer, to use a device he has been working on recently to find them.
Together with the Engineer and Lady Emeraldblade, the Medic travels to the Engineers lab, where he reveals to them the aforementioned gadget: the Necro-Detector, a device that can detect pockets of undead in any part of the world. The three of them activate the device, and find a large pocket of undead located in Cheeseman Park, just southeast of Denver, Colorado.
The three of them return to the rest of the team with the news and forge a plan to travel to Cheesman Park to find and defeat Merasmus. The Medic, alongside the Engineer and the Sniper offer to accompany Lady Emeraldblade on their trip north, while the rest of the team stays back at the base to await word to teleport there via one of the Engineer's teleporters.
