Jane H. Rudman, better known as Melody The Clown, is one of the three deuteragonists of the webcomic HoodRats! (alongside Skid The Rabbit and Mystique The Human). She's a superheroine with fire-related powers and the self-proclaimed leader of the Hoodrats.
Personality[]
Melody is a pretty arrogant individual, which can be seen by the mere fact that she's proclaimed herself the leader of the Hoodrats, and is further highlighted by her wanting to be the one to defeat Oscurita and appearing visibly disappointed when Sammi states Kermit is the leader of the group.
Melody also has a taunting personality, or at the very least she has one when interacting with Prince. Despite the two being a part for a year or so now, Melody still harbors feelings for Prince, but it's one-sided.[1]
She also seems to prefer acting without planning things first, showing that she's pretty careless. This however doesn't stop her from being worried in certain situations, although she seemingly prefers not to show it and have faith in her teammates.
It's also implied that she has a crush on Mystique.
Biography[]
Background[]
All that is known about Melody's past is that at some point she decided to fight against Kermit, later becoming his friend and forming the Hoodrats.
She and Prince also dated at some point before breaking up, with the jacket that she wears being a gift from him.
She was also friends with Marbles before the latter became the Land Guardian, causing her to get on pretty bad terms with Melody and the rest of the Hoodrats.
Introduction![]
As Oscurita and Prince are conducting a fleet of jets to start an invasion, Melody and the rest of the Hoodrats make their appearance, having been hidden in the storage unit of one of the jets.
Villain![]
Alongside her friends, she fights against the missiles sent by Oscurita and Prince. She laters interrupts Oscurita and Kermit as they're about to start fighting, asking the latter to let her fight the former, but is interrupted in turn by Prince attacking her.
Heist![]
She and Prince continue their fight, with Melody taunting him before deciding to get serious after Mystique tells her not to waste time and to go support Kermit, stopping after Oscurita accidentally destroys the jet she's onto.
She's later seen alongside her friends riding a plane stolen from Oscurita.
Mystery![]
Alongside Kermit and Skid, she uses Oscurita's plane to bring the former's sister, Stella, to her finals before the three decide to stop by a place to relax a bit. Melody and Kermit then proceed have a race, with Skid declaring that Kermit's the winner. Melody doesn't take this well and threatens to punch them, stopping only after she realizes Kermit's gone.
Caped![]
Wanting a break from the heroic activities of the Hoodrats, Melody decides to spend some time with Mystique. The two are however soon interrupted by Kermit and Sammi fighting and, after an initial disappointment from Melody due to Sammi thinking Kermit is the Hoodrats' leader, the two join the fight to help their friend, although things don't go that well until Kermit is possessed by the cape he's wearing.
Lore![]
After Sammi escapes offscren, Melody and the others are reached by Skid, who makes fun of them for having let Sammi escape, with Melody saying that the fight was incredibly hard and that Mystique and Kermit can vouch for her, although Mystique says that it was more annoying than anything and Kermit says that it was pretty alright; this last thing surprises the entire group due to Kermit never talking, but the moment is interrupted by Cindy's arrival, who states that the person they're talking isn't Kermit anymore.
History![]
As Cindy starts fighting against Kermit, Melody asks the former an explanation regarding the whole situation. Cindy explains that there are 3 capes (one for the Darkness, one for the Land and one for the Sky), created from the spirits of 3 powerful gods and given to several generations of heroes. However, if one of the capes is worn by someone not tasked nor blessed with the responsibility, all it will bring is chaos, eventually reawakening the entity inside. After Cindy knocks the possessed Kermit out, Melody asks her who she is and why she knows so much about the cape, although Cindy seemingly doesn't answer.
VS LabRats! (Part 1)[]
After the events of Gotcha!, Stella goes to the Hoodrats, telling them all that happened regarding Prince and Sky, adding that the two let her go, Sky gave her a map and that she told Stella to tell the Hoodrats to meet them in some place. While Melody trusts Stella due to her being Kermit's sister, she also thinks this is all a bit sudden, but immediately decides that she and the others are in. Mystique points out that they should at least prepare a backup plan, but eventually gives up on doing it in Melody's way after Stella says that she'll be killed if all of the Hoodrats don't show up. The group splits up, with Melody and Mystique going somewhere while Kermit, Skid and Stella stay in case something happens.
VS LabRats! (Part 2)[]
Melody appears in some of Kermit's flashbacks, showing how she first met him and formed the Hoodrats.
VS LabRats! (Part 3)[]
Melody talks with Skid thanks to a phone booth, with the latter explaining the situation as well to express something regarding Kermit, with Melody saying that she doesn't blame them for feeling that way and that she and Prince were "rocky too".
When Mystique asks how the others are doing, Melody explains that a few death drones have been sent in their zone, although she expresses little to no worries. Mystique calls her out on this, but Melody simply answers telling her that she should "be less of a bitch", which causes Mystique to punch her. Melody explains that she's actually really worried, but that she knows Kermit and Skid are strong.
The conversation between the two is soon interrupted my Marbles, the current Land Guardian who once used to be a pretty close of friend of Melody before being chosen for her current role, which caused her to develop a disliking for the Hoodrats. As soon as Mystique tries to explain that they were going to check on what Oscurita was doing with the drones she seemingly sent, Marbles lifts both of them up with her powers, clearly not believing them. Melody immediately states that they weren't actually doing anything and were merely chilling, while also saying that there are troubles elsewhere. Marbles seems suspicious of why someone who likes to be at the center of attention like Melody hasn't gone there already, and Melody simply answers saying she doesn't know; fortunately, this is enough for Marbles to let them go and leave.

- She originally was just a stylized version of Hatsune Miku for another project, but was later turned into a separate and new character.[4]
- While not too many details have been given to avoid spoilers, JoJo has stated that Melody is the reincarnation of Loki.[5]
- If she were to speak, like the other characters in the comic, her voice wouldn't be anything comprehensible but something like Banjo and Kazooie.[6]
