Rothbart is a supporting protagonist in The Swan Princess fanfiction Swan Princess: Rise of the Forbidden Arts written by Firelord515. Unlike his villainous original counterpart this version of Rothbart was a good guy the whole time who was working with King William to take down The Dark Lord Sargon.
History[]
Rothbart was the best friend of King William since the two were children. King William feared that one day his son, who was now known as Sargon, would one day return. William and Rothbart made a plan to take down Sargon by infiltrating his ranks. Rothbart would carefully study the Forbbiden Arts to learn as much as he could. He and William would then fake a discovery with William pretending to discover that Rothbart was using the Forbidden Arts. William would then banish Rothbart from the kingdom leaving Rothbart branded as a rogue sorcerer so that he could infiltrate Sargon's ranks.
Rothbart for many years would slowly make his way up Sargon's ranks though Sargon was apparently suspicious Rothbart seemingly proved that he was loyal to him multiple times. Around this time Rothbart would continue studying the Forbbiden Arts with Clavius and Zelda, but Rothbart betrayed them when he realized that they wanted to use them for person power. Many years after first being banished Sargon would order Rothbart to kill King William in order to prove his loyalty to him. Rothbart didn't want to do this and talked with King William in secret. King William, however, knowing the danger everyone was in, agreed to let Rothbart kill him so that he could protect his daughter Odette from Sargon.
Rothbart would then assassinate King William in his animal form and kidnap Odette. King William's last words to Prince Derek was that things were not as they seemed. At the time Derek thought that it was William telling him about Rothbart's animal transformation but in reality, it was William trying to tell Derek that Rothbart was on their side the entire time. Rothbart tries to stall to prevent Sargon from killing Odette but it backfired as Odette and Derek fought back and seemingly killed Rothbart.
Rothbart actually survived though and was laying low to stay out of Sargon's sights. When Sargon makes his return Rothbart shows up to the shock of Odette and Derek. Rothbart explains everything to them and despite their reluctance joins the heroes' side to take down Sargon once and for all.
