Ryder Mitchell is one of the main protagonists (along with his older sister Dylan Mitchell) of the 2010 found footage horror film Slender 2: The Arrival. He is the younger brother of Dylan Mitchell and the nephew of Kate.
He is played by Ty Simpkons.
Personality[]
Unlike his older sister Dylan Mitchell who is an unlikeable complete and utter monster, Ryder is a likeable, sympathetic, tragic, and heroic protagonist who shows worry for his tormentors when they are being killed off one by one, despite how they treat him.
He showed the most sadness towards Bryan's death due to his kindness.
However, he also hated Dylan for her evilness and also doesn't show sympathy for her when she is defeated.
History[]
When Ryder was born, his older sister Dylan hated him out of selfish jealousy and wanted him to die at birth while their parents also got disappointed to have a boy instead of a girl.
For the next few years, Dylan abused Ryder and put on a fake kind image just to get away with it since her parents always favored her. She even killed the family dog just to make Ryder suffer.
At his own birthdays, Dylan always tripped him and made him fall face first into his own cake before laughing at him along with their parents, her friends, and his own so-called friends, including his love interest Lola (who was just using him).
At school, Dylan pranked him during a school play by attaching a hook to his costume and when the play started, she activated it and made his costume get ripped off, showing him in his underwear. She laughed along with the audience at her prank.
At a baseball game, Dylan stole a bully named Eric's baseball hat and planted it in Ryder's backpack. When Eric found it, he beat up Ryder as Dylan watched on with a sadistic smirk.
In his room, Dylan would always sexually abuse Ryder and threaten him into not telling anybody. When she was done with her assault, she smirked at his crying and planned to do it again.
One night, she went too far by telling him the story of the Slender Man and laughed at his reaction to the story. She also abusively yelled at him to stop crying and go back to sleep.
Before the events of the film, she was supposed to babysit him but selfishly went to a party instead of taking care of him and left him alone in the house. Before she left, she finally told him that she hates him for being born.
Slender 2: The Arrival[]
After the party, Ryder goes missing and Dylan is on Skypecall about it, which Ryder is secretly watching.
At first, the group is having fun but a mysterious woman is visiting them. They brush her off but later get scared when she forces Dean Summers to drink bleach until he coughs up blood and dies from the poisoning.
As the attack is happening, they try to figure out who she is and they think that she is the one who kidnapped Ryder.
However, Lexi Chang becomes possessed and goes to her kitchen where she takes out a knife and stabs her stomach as the group watches in horror.
Next, Bridget Foster hides under her bed and covers her mouth so she won't scream. When she thinks that the attacker is gone, she asks someone to help her but then gets dragged away by the attacker.
A video shows up and it shows Bridget tied up and muffling for help but the attacker ties a rope around Bridget's neck and hangs her. Bridget struggles but then slowly stops and dies from suffocation.
As the group is trying to get some help, Robbie McDonnell finds his cell phone in a fire place and tries to call for help but the attacker closes the fire place and lights it, burning him to death.
Then a video shows up and it's revealed that Dylan and Brent Martinez were having an affair behind Bryan Roberts' back, much to his anger.
Brent then gets possessed and is forced to ground his hand and neck in the blender.
However, Bryan is depressed by the affair and commits suicide by shooting himself is the head, much to Ryder's horror and sadness.
The attacker was also saddened by what happened and honors him by finally deciding to expose Dylan's crimes.
When they are shown, the viewers post angry comments about Dylan and the sadistic cyber bully doesn't show remorse for her crimes and actually hopes that Ryder dies for all she cares.
However, Dylan is defeated when the attacker who is later revealed to be Kate from the first film appears to her and jump scares her.
When the Skypecall ends, Ryder is seen in the camera's view and he is terrified but Kate finds him and comforts him before taking him home.
In the ending text, Ryder and Kate's whereabouts are unknown but he is safe and unharmed. He currently lives with her and is grateful for how she loved him like a son to her. Dylan is now hated for her crimes and no one cared about what happened to her. However, Bryan's family is left mourning for Bryan's death.
Trivia[]
- Ryder is like Michael Webster: Both are abused by their respective sisters (Dylan and Tara), their parents don't do anything about it, their friends and love-interest laugh at them, and they end up getting a happy ending via the death of their sisters.
- Despite what happened at the end, Ryder might not see this as bad because he's now free from his abusive sister, neglectful parents, and traitorous friends but he now has a new family, new friends, and a new girlfriend.
- Because of Ryder's good heart and Dylan's cruelty, Ryder is considered the true main protagonist and Dylan is considered the true main antagonist.
