Sans the Skeleton, or simply just known as Sans, one of the deuteragonists of the 2015 Indie game, Undertale, and one of the main antagonists of the FNF mod, Indie Cross, serving as the main antagonist hero of Week 2. He also serves as the eponymous protagonist of the Sans VS. Bendy animations by MORØ Nighteye.
Appearance[]
Sans is a short paunchy skeleton. He looks almost identical to his original counterpart with the blue jacket, black shorts and slippers. The main difference is the hood on his jacket, the lack of white stripes on his shorts, and his slippers being pink instead of a grayish white.
Personality[]
Like his classic counterpart, Sans is friendly and socializing, yet lazy and apathetic. He is able to stay calm in deadly situations, even being able to make a joke every now and then. Despite his lack of motivation, Sans isn't afraid to step up to those who pose as threats to the Underground and will drop his prankster attitude in doing so.
Trivia[]
- Sans is the only character in the mod whose fate is determined based on Boyfriend's actions.
- This is, of course, based on Undertale’s morality mechanics, where the ending of the game (as well as many other aspects) varies depending on how many (or what kind of) monsters the player has killed.
- Sans acknowledges the events of Week 1 in the opening of Sansational, which references the fact that he (along with Flowey) has knowledge of the alternate timelines created when the player resets their Save File.
- The blue and orange bone notes in Sans’ Week reference the Patience (Blue) and Bravery (Orange) attacks from Undertale, where you have to stop moving on blue attacks and move on orange attacks.
- Sans' dialogue before Whoopee references the Undertale fan-song To The Bone, namely the memetic lyric "Welcome to the Underground, how was the fall?".
- Oddly, unlike in Undertale, Sans doesn’t turn into dust when he’s killed by The Human in the Genocide ending of the Week.
- The beginning of Whoopie being fast and filled with mechanics and the rest being slower and more chilled possibly alludes to Sans’ introduction in Undertale, in which he steps from the shadows and reaches for The Human’s hand in an intimidating fashion, only to be revealed to be a whoopee-cushion trick. The song’s name is in reference to this.
- It also may reference Sans’ line after surviving his first attack in his boss fight, in which he remarks why no one uses their strongest attacks first.
- One of his songs, Bad Time, was initially meant to have a battle mode, but it was scrapped.
- Sans is the only opponent in the mod so far who can part with Boyfriend on good terms.
- His design in the mod is based off of a doodle of him drawn by PhantomArcade.
- Despite being the main antagonist of week 2, Sans isn't evil and doesn't commit any heinous deeds. While he does try to kill Boyfriend, he only does so in the Genocide Route after Chara possesses him. Additionally, he only attacks Boyfriend a couple of times beforehand only because he initially didn't trust him, unlike Bendy or even Cuphead, who try to kill him out of animalistic urges or pure frustration respectively.
