Saya Yamada is a supporting protagonist featured in Date A Re:Live.

Appearance[]

In Saya's normal body, she had brown hair tied into twin braids, pale skin, and blue eyes. When possessing Kotori's body, she retained the red eyes, but now had long red hair tied into twintails.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Back in the past when Saya was walking home from Rindouji High, she was worrying that her best friend has no longer any desire to hang out with her and walked into the local forest when a damaged Chesire misidentified her as a Spirit.

Although she could not see the machine, she tried to flee when it stabbed her in the leg and started pulling her back, leading to her screaming for help. Just then, her friend in an outfit Saya had not been familiar with destroyed the machine.

Saya also witnessed Phantom with her friend, the entity proceeded to explain that she was a Spirit and Kurumi was helping her protect the Spirit powers from DEM as they were intending to steal them for twisted goals. Kurumi explains she was changed from a human to a Spirit, with Saya realizing why her friend has not been walking home with her.

Saya demanded for her friend to be reverted, but Phantom refuted as Kurumi cannot be reverted. Saya then demanded to fight alongside her friend as she wanted to protect her, leading to Phantom to give her the Camael Crystal.

This turned Saya into the prior Flame Spirit. Later, as Saya destroyed a Jabberwocky alongside Kurumi, giving her relief of all the stress. However, this came to an end when Ellen attacked her and Kurumi made a failed attempted to escape with her friend. This culminated in Ellen slashing Saya's head off, killing her.

Chapter 11[]

As Kotori is holding her head from the pain she was enduring, her eyes were turning blue as Saya was trying to take over her body. Despite Kotori's efforts to resist, Saya angrilly tells her to "stay.. DOWN" as she wanted to save her friend Kurumi. As Kotori apologizes to her friends, her right eye turned blue as Saya takes over her body.

Realizing she is no longer in Osaka, but in Tenguu City, Saya struggles to remember her friend's name, she destroys a fountain out of anger of how much of her memories were lost.

Having seen what happened to Kotori, Shido and the Spirits attack Saya in an attempt to force Kotori's personality back out as Kotori's body was hers and not Saya's. As Mana was helping them in trying to force Saya to let Kotori have her body back, Minerva blindsides her.

As Shido and company were having their powers drained, Saya attacks Minerva under the mistaken impression she as Ellen. Minerva points out she and Ellen are not the same person and that Saya was killed ten years ago.

Reluctantly on Minerva's demand to look at a reflection, she was horrified to see that she was not in her brown-haired body which was 17-years old, but the red-haired body of the 14-year-old Kotori. As Saya was in disbelief that she was dead for ten years, Minerva blasts away at her, vaporizing Kotori's body leaving only an arm and her Astral Dress.

However, the red Spirit Mana formed around the remains with Saya making an enraged scream at her "second death" and that Minerva will pay a price for killing her, setting off a dark red Spacequake that sent Minerva flying off while freeing Shido and company from being captive.

Chapter 22[]

Years after her death, Rinne used the power she stole to revive dozens of humans who were Spirits, Kurmi rushed to the park to witness the revival of Saya who was dressed in white after emerging from a massive glow of white light.

Saya was relieved to know she was brought back from the dead as well as every prior holder of a Sephira Crystal. The membership of Ratatoskr welcomed Saya as she and Kurumi had a reunion with their respective sets of parents.
