~ Shido Takamiya |
Shido Takamiya is the main protagonist of Date A Re:Live Franchise. As opposed to his canon counterpart, Shido Itsuka, whose previous incarnation was Shinji Takamiya, Shido not only retains his family name, his real sister, Mana, is a resident of the Itsuka household from the start of the story. He is a Human/Spirit hybrid [Become full Spirit after Chapter 66] and high school student who works for the Ratatoskr organization to seal Spirits' powers and combat DEM Industries, who seek to use the powers of Spirits for malicious purposes.
He is voiced by Nobunaga Shimizaki in the Japanese version of the anime and Jessie James Grelle in the English version, the former of whom also voices Shinichi Izumi, and Eugeo.
Shiori is voiced by Saeko Zōgō in the Japanese version of the anime and Ryan Reynolds in the English version.
Appearance[]
He is pale skinned with blue hair and brown eyes, owing to his mother Rinne having no genes to pass down to him when she and Seigo had him.
When his powers as a spirit awaken, his eyes permanently change to gold with white pupils. His hair and eye color can change color depending on which spirit’s power he is using. In the case of using his mother’s powers, his hair becomes longer as well.
During the events of Miku Fantasy, Shido had to physically change into a female girl through Haniel to interact with Miku, thus transforming from her alternate identity, Shiori Takamiya. During that time, she was seen with long blue hair, and wore the standard Raizen High School female uniform. She also wore a flower hair clip as a hair accessory.
Personality[]
Initially Shido was a young man who did not show any interest in girls and who preferred to spend his time taking care of household chores in the constant absence of his guardians, due to the above mentioned, Shido had enough problems to have even a conversation with them, showing quite nervous at those times.
Mana and Kotori have theorized that due to the experience of having been abandoned by his biological mother, Shido usually shows a great empathy towards those who are in despair, which makes him willing to help them in any way necessary. For this reason, Reine thinks that Shido is the best person to deal with spirits beyond his ability to seal their powers.
Undoubtedly the most characteristic trait of Shido's personality is his enormous kindness to others, being a person who will accept and show understanding to others, this turns out to be the main reason why all the spirits have fallen in love with him. Even Miku, who used to have a very twisted perception about people by seeing them as mere puppets, was able to change such ideology thanks to Shido's help.
Shido can also show compassion towards his enemies and when it comes to helping spirits, he does not hesitate to put his own life in danger. When Natsumi asks him why he doesn't feel upset after having all kinds of cruel pranks played on him, Shido replies that compared to everything he has had to go through before to keep the spirits safe, Natsumi's pranks were just a simple childish game. As the series progresses, Shido becomes more and more sure of himself and his conviction also grows stronger, even Kurumi Tokisaki when they met for the second time, acknowledged that Shido was now a much more mature man and that he was nothing like the pathetic young man she met several months earlier.
Despite his great determination, Shido's self-assurance can sometimes crack. When he discovered Kurumi's sinister nature during their first meeting, Shido was frightened by it and has since sought to be cautious about approaching her. Similarly, when Mukuro Hoshimiya claimed that Shido was a hypocrite in wanting to save the spirits by depriving them of their power, he began to question whether sealing them was the right thing to do, as doing so left them more vulnerable to DEM. In situations like the ones described above, Shido has needed the emotional support of others in order to regain his resolve.
Powers and Abilities[]
During his time as a half-spirit, he has been capable of making use of the powers he gained from Spirits he has sealed. Anytime he uses a spirit's powers, his hair will change to reflect the spirit whose power he is using.
Biography[]
He, along with his sister Mana, was a human-spirit hybrid born between the union of the Seigo Takamiya and the pure spirit Rinne Sonogami. Shido had somehow inherited the powers of his father, including the ability to seal the powers of the spirits as a youngster. After his father took him and Mana to the human realm, he met Tohka Yatogami for the first time, decades before she became a spirit. When Shido and Mana were placed in the custody of Tohka’s parents, he provided her with a butterfly ribbon as a birthday present, they also have made a promise to marry. However the parents of the children died trying to save them from DEM and his sister and Tohka were captured by DEM and sent to one of their facilities. Shido was then given into the custody of the Itsuka Family and Mana joined the family after her escape.
Chapter 1[]
Thirty years after the events of the first spacequake, Shido and Mana were currently in the custody of the Itsuka Family where they have been living with their daughter Kotori who woke up Shido when he was still asleep by striking him in the stomach.
When Mana tries to show Kotori the video of a recent spacequake, the latter was too frightened by the prank the Takamiya siblings pulled.
Later, after Kotori and Mana head off to Raizen Middle School, Shido heads off to Raizen High where he meets up with Origami Tobiichi, a girl with long white hair and blue eyes. When Origami hit her head by mistake, Shido gave her a bandage. Later on Shido then encountered Tokha again as a spirit and Origami as a spirit fighting each other.

Tonomachi is Shido's best friend, although he is often annoyed when Tonomachi, like many other boys at their school, shows jealousy over the number of girls around him. Tonomachi would later begin distancing himself from Shido after Natsumi used her Angel to impersonate him and made moves on his friends and classmates. Despite this, Shido still viewed Tonomachi as a good friend and was visibly hurt when Mukuro locked his memories.
