Yuki Maeda is the main protagonist of the Korean Danganronpa fangame Danganronpa Another by LINUJ. He is an amnesiac alternate personality of Utsuro, based on the real Yuki Maeda.
Personality[]
Yuki Maeda sees himself as an ordinary high school student with no special features that make him stand out. He says his defining trait is his curiosity. He is dedicated to working hard and helping his friends with whatever they need. During the events of the story, he is determined to help his friends persevere through the killing game. He may have a lustful side, if Monokuma was telling the truth about what his desire was in the Chapter 3 motive video.
His original personality was that of Utsuro, who wiped his own personality and memory and replaced it with the Yuki Maeda persona.
History[]
Before the events of the game, Utsuro kidnapped the real Yuki Maeda, who had become the Ultimate Lucky Student for class 79, and disguised himself as Yuki, taking his place in Hope's Peak Academy. When Utsuro set up the killing game, he decided to participate and brainwashed himself into gaining Yuki's personality and erased his memories of his life as Utsuro.
Yuki and the rest of Class 79 introduced themselves to each other in the entrance hall. Yuki talked to each student individually. In actuality, this is just a shared fabricated memory, since when the Class 79 introductions really happened, Yuki had his original Utsuro personality, Mikako Kurakawa had her original talkative personality, and Yamato Kisaragi was present.
When they woke up in the Kisaragi Foundation building for the killing game, Yuki Maeda became friends with some people, Akane Taira most of all, and encouraged them to work together to investigate an escape route and not kill anyone. Yuki believed at first that no one would kill anyone to leave, but he then began to doubt that belief and thought that he may have been naive. His doubts proved to be correct when the murders started.
Yuki Maeda walked up to and encountered Mitsuhiro Higa sexually harassing Akane, causing Higa to run away from the scene.
When he watched the motive video, he saw someone breaking into his house and possibly attacking his mother.
He was among the first people to discover the corpse of Kiyoka Maki hanging in the girl's bathroom. He played a major role in investigating the crime scene, as he would for all subsequent murders.
He was one of the most helpful students during the class trial, as well as all subsequent trials, despite Rei Mekaru calling him "incompetent". Despite Mitsuhiro being a murderer and sexual harasser, Yuki was still horrified at his execution.
In Chapter 2, Tsurugi Kinjo organized a group and told them that he will help ensure their safety if they abide by his strict rules. Including Yuki, everyone except Rei Mekaru, Kizuna Tomori, and Kinji Uehara joined Kinjo's group. Due to Monokuma's "secrets" motive, Kizuna Tomori got a note saying that Yuki Maeda may know the identity of the mastermind. Kizuna got the idea to kill Yuki and get Akane to help her out. Akane's refusal to kill Yuki led to her stabbing Kizuna and Ayame finishing Kizuna off. Yuki's "secret" being revealed caused the other students to distrust him, exacerbated by Monokuma saying there was a traitor among the group helping Monokuma.
In Chapter 3, Monokuma shows the students what their desires were. Monokuma showed Yuki a video of people having sex, possibly indicating that Yuki or Utsuro wanted to have sex.
Seeing the injuries of Rei, Kinji, and Tsurugi, in addition to the deaths of Kakeru Yamaguchi and Kanata Inori, Yuki believed that the culprit had terrible malice, more so than the previous culprits. When Kinji was revealed as the culprit, Yuki learned that Kinji did what he did to save one hundred children. Yuki then sympathized with Kinji.
In the ballroom in Chapter 4, he dressed in formal clothes and danced with Akane Taira. While everyone was locked in the ballroom and starving, with no way to leave other than murder, Yuki went to the arsenal, contemplating murder due to his painful hunger, but Tsurugi stopped him before he could get any further. Later, Teruya Otori had an idea that two people sacrifice themselves so the rest can escape, and Yuki, Akane, and Satsuki Iranami agree with the idea. Before they could talk further, Tsurugi Kinjo tried to get everyone to commit mass suicide so no one would murder each other. Yuki explained that was a horrible idea, and that Tsurugi had become unstable after his worldview was shaken by Kinji's noble motive for murder.
In Chapter 5, Yamato Kisaragi was introduced to the students. As Kisaragi had brain damage due to the effects of resisting the memory eraser, he could not think or speak coherently. Yamato, remembering Utsuro, asked Yuki if he was a bad person, to Yuki's confusion.
Tsurugi attempted suicide to atone for his actions. Possibly due to Yuki's luck, Tsurugi did not die. Yuki was the first to notice that he was not dead and Monokuma took Tsurugi to the infirmary.
Yuki discovered Yamato Kisaragi's dead body, and Mikako standing over him, covered in blood. During the trial for his murder, Yuki is one of the main suspects, exacerbated by Mikako claiming that Yuki was the culprit and she was an accomplice. Akane cleared Yuki's name. After the trial, Tsurugi came back and revealed that he had regained his memories, that Akane Taira was the mastermind, and turned Akane back into an Ultimate Despair agent by saying a trigger phrase.
In Chapter 6, Tsurugi tells Yuki that during school time at Hope's Peak, he never spoke to anyone and questioned whether Yuki's personality was real. Yuki insisted it was real, since he believed it was. The remaining students investigated the history of Hope's Peak Academy, discovering things such as the details about the Tragedy, the Alter Ego artificial intelligence created by Chihiro Fujisaki, and the memory manipulation device previously used by Junko Enoshima and Yasuke Matsuda. On one monitor, he discovers Alter Ego Yamato Kisaragi saying to "watch out for Utsuro" causing Yuki to have a painful flashback.
During the final class trial, the students realized that Akane Taira was not the only mastermind. Akane Taira asked Yuki if he remembered his mother's name or the name of the school he grew up going to. Yuki realized he couldn't remember the details of his past. Yuki screamed in agony as he remembered past actions he had done as Utsuro, and the truth of his identity as an impostor, a copy of Yuki Maeda. In a scene his subconscious, the player is given the option of two doors for Yuki to choose. The white door represents hope, and the red door represents despair.
If the player chose the white door, Yuki Maeda regained all his memories as Utsuro, but stayed as Yuki and felt remorse for his past actions and a willingness to be held accountable after the other students escape the school. Akane Taira was angry at this turn of events, and used a Monokuma to kill Yuki.
If the player chose the red door, the canon ending, Utsuro completely returned and Yuki's personality returned. After Tsurugi, Rei, and Teruya confronted Utsuro, they eventually escaped and left Utsuro and Akane behind as the building self-destructed, killing them both.
