| “ | When I was a little kid, the two things I loved most in life were Godzilla, and NES games. So naturally when Godzilla: Monster of Monsters came out, it was like a dream come true. Well, almost. To sum it up, most of the game revolved around getting through (very repetitive) outer space levels while smashing up tanks and jets, and then fighting against Godzilla's monster enemies. Overall it was pretty mediocre, but back then I didn't care. When I got the game as a present for my tenth birthday, I played it night and day, as much as I could. | „ |

| ~ Zach after Melissa is mentioned in the game |
Zachary, better known as Zach, is the main protagonist of the NES Godzilla Creepypasta.
He is a man who receives a copy of the infamous 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System game cartridge, Godzilla: Monster of Monsters!, not knowing that playing this game would start a chain of unfortunate events.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Zach's past, only that he was a Godzilla fan when he was a child, and he used to play Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! day and night after receiving the game as gift for his 10th birthday. But much to his regret, he later traded it for Amagon. In middle school, he had a girlfriend named Melissa, who had severe psychological problems (which are revealed to be Red's doing later on), and was unfortunately killed when she ran into a street and got ran over by a truck.
During the events of the story, Zach manages to get himself a new NES system, so he goes on to find as many videogames to play as possible. From his friend Billy, he receives copies of The Legend of Zelda, Bomberman, Action 52, and his favorite game, Godzilla: Monster of Monsters!. Filled with nostalgia, Zach begins to play. However, he starts encountering strange anomalies within the game, such as the game glitching out when he defeated his first opponent, Gezora. He ignores this and shrugs it off as the cartridge being dirty.
After defeating Titanosaurus, a monster that shouldn't be in the game, he is taken to Pathos, the second level of the game. As more anomalies begin to occur, such as Biollante, or MOGUERA being twice as big as it should be, he starts thinking that something is wrong, and he is finally convinced when Orga makes an appearance, which should be impossible since Orga appeared in a 1999 film.
During his journey in Pathos, the bosses that once resembled kaijus from Godzilla films, started to change into totally different creatures he would call "Not-Monsters", who, despite having completely different appearances, were still referred to as their original counterparts by the game. He also has his first encounter with Red in the final level of the planet. Zach describes it as a monster never shown in a Godzilla film, and being a monster that definitely shouldn't be in a game for children. During his journey in Trance, he discovers the "quiz levels", where he would get interrogated by a creature he called "Face". His experience through Trance was similar to Pathos, featuring several kaijus who weren't originally in the game, as well as ending just like Pathos: with an encounter with Red.
The rest of the game is like the previous two planets: filled with strange levels, hidden messages and ominous monsters. It is not until the battle against the Moon Beast when Zach becomes terrified of the game's abilities. His deceased girlfriend Melissa is mentioned after the fight, mocking her for killing herself. Zach needed a break from the game after witnessing this.
Zach continues his experience, playing through levels as he felt that his life was in danger. Each encounter with Red becomes more violent and anxiety-inducing, as the beast shapeshifted into different forms to try and kill the monsters. In Extus, he has his final encounter with Face, who asks him if he will miss it, and gives him a new monster: Solomon. He then continues through the game, using Solomon to beat levels he considered difficult. After killing Chimera, he is forced to use Godzilla in the final level of Extus, where he finds an angel which is later revealed to be Melissa, but the angel is then eaten alive by Red, beginning the chase sequence. After the chase is over, Zach insults Red, which causes him to look at the screen.
In Zenith, Face is revealed to have been killed by Red. He gets through each level, and encounters Red one last time, ready for the final showdown. At first, Red is beaten in all his forms, but then he mutates into a combination of all his previous forms, killing each of Zach's monsters with ease. Melissa then intervenes, giving him one final monster to destroy Red: Acacius. After a long and intense battle, Red is finally destroyed, thus freeing Melissa, and ending the nightmare.
Other appearances[]
- Main article: Zachary (Friday Night Monsters of Monsters)
Zachary appears in Friday Night Monsters of Monsters where he narrates the story mode.
Appearance[]
Zachary's appearance is never mentioned through the story.
Personality[]
There is not much to say about Zach's personality other that he was terrified, yet determined to complete the game. He was also caring to his girlfriend Melissa, always looking after her when she had her "episodes" which caused her to remain motionless, and become terrified after it ends.
Trivia[]
- During one of the quiz games, Zach was confirmed to be over the age of 18.
- On top of this, Godzilla: Monsters of Monsters wasn't released to the U.S. until 1989, which is presumably when Zach received the game for his 10th birthday. As such, it can be assumed he was born sometime around 1979, making him around 32 when he was given the anomalous copy of the game by Billy.
